Rules and Regulations for Illustrators Prize
Entrants must comply with all of the set rules and regulations. The submission deadline for 2014 is 11:59pm GMT Sunday, June 29, 2014. ALL entries will be acknowledged with an email to the address from which the entry was sent. The rules and regulations below are specific to the Golden Baobab Prize for Illustrators.
What to Submit to the Golden Baobab Prize for Illustrators:
- 1 illustration as per the following illustration brief:
A boy and his little brother are lost in a big city market. The older boy is pulling his brother who is distracted by a chicken.
- 1 illustration as per the following story excerpt:
Jama only had 15 minutes to choose books before the library closed. He could see, out of the corner of his eye, the librarian's foot tapping nearby. But Jama needed to take books his father would believe he was interested in.
- 2 illustrations from your illustration portfolio
Rules and Regulations
- The Golden Baobab Prize for Illustrators is open to African citizens of all ages. However, If you are below 18 years you must apply, instead, to the Golden Baobab Prize for Rising Illustrators which can be found here. Passport ID page verification will be required.
- The illustrations should be intended for children between the ages of 6 and 11 and they must be imaginative and appealing to the target audience.
- Illustrations should be in colour.
- Illustrations can be in any format of the illustrator's choice provided they can be submitted through a Dropbox link. Find submission instructions here.
- Entrants must submit only the materials requested by the prizes according to what is stated on the website. Additional submissions will not be considered.
- All entries except portfolio materials must be original unpublished illustrations that have not won in any previous awards.
- All entries must be the unaided work of the entrant. You are not permitted to submit another person's illustrations as your own.
- Entrants may submit up to 3 entries in all.
- Illustrations should be in .jpeg and must be a maximum of 5MB each.
- By submitting an illustration you specifically declare that you are legally entitled to do so and give us permission to make it available for exclusive worldwide royalty-free usage, reproduction and distribution.
- The copyright of each entry will remain vested in the entrant unless otherwise agreed in writing between the entrant and Golden Baobab.
- Submissions must be made under an illustrator’s legal name, as it is written on his or her passport or other identification. Additionally, he or she may indicate a desire for the illustration to be represented under a pseudonym.
- The Golden Baobab Prizes administration reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not conform to set rules. No correspondence will be pursued in this regard.
- Winners will be announced in November 2014.
